New School, New Curriculum: Transition Event

On behalf of the staff and governors of Pencoed Comprehensive School, we are delighted to invite you to our transition open evening on Thursday 29th September 2022. This is the first face to face open evening we have had for three years, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our school community.

The event will consist of an opportunity to meet the leadership team and discover how we support all learners to learn, grow, thrive and flourish in our school. Visits to Areas of Learning Experience will also take place and you will be able to speak to staff and learners about their experiences as a member of Pencoed Comprehensive School.

There will be two sessions running and please see the information below regarding timings.

Session one – Parents and carers to meet in Canteen 5 at 4pm before undertaking a tour of the school

Session two – Parents and carers to meet in Canteen 5 at 4.30pm before undertaking a tour of the school.

Signage will be posted to direct you to the appropriate locations and members of our Sixth Form will also be available to support.

On visiting the school, you will receive an overview of transition events for the year which include:

  • visits to the school in which learners engage with Areas of Learning to support their learning transition;
  • sports events;
  • a visit to our annual Esiteddfod – a highlight of the school calendar!
  • Pencoed Comprehensive School staff visiting cluster primaries;
  • Year 6 summer transition day, in which learners meet their Wellbeing Coaches;
  • Year 6 summer term parent’s meeting, followed by our inaugural summer social for leaners, parents and carers.

Alongside the transition events, you will also receive a half termly “Flourish” transition newsletter which will keep you updated of the fantastic experiences your children are undertaking in Pencoed, inform you of key events and give you further insight into our school community. A new addition to our transition plan is inviting parents and carers to visit during the school on key dates during the academic year. There will be five days with two sessions per date, but your place will need to be booked via a Google Form as numbers need to be limited to support the logistics of guiding visitors around the site. More information on this will be shared with you in due course.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and responding to any queries or questions that you may have. In the meantime, please visit our school website for any further information you may have.
