Festivities at Pencoed Comp!

We’re getting in the Christmas spirit over the next two weeks, with a number of events and activities.

On Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th, our Canteen will be serving a Christmas themed menu!

On Friday 15th  December, we’re hosting our 6th Form Christmas Fayre and taking part in Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day. We’re asking families, where possible, to donate £1 (or however much they can give) through the Pencoed Comprehensive School, Save the Children, Just Giving page link: https://www.justgiving.com/page/pencoed-comprehensive-1701863357604

Learners can also bring in additional cash to use in our Christmas Fayre. Our 6th form will be running our Christmas Fayre with a range of stalls, treats and games for students to enjoy. All the money raised will go to support children in the UK and around the world. By taking part we’ll be helping children who don’t have the basics they need to survive – like food, school or medicine – to start seeing the magic in the world again.

Learners are expected to wear full school uniform but can replace their black school jumper with a Christmas jumper. Any formal assessments will run as planned.

Finally, our Christmas Carol Concert will take place 20th December, from 6pm at Salem Chapel, Pencoed. Tickets are £2, and available via ParentPay.

Pencoed Pathways – Yr9 Introduction to GCSEs

On behalf of the staff and governors of Pencoed Comprehensive School, we are delighted to invite you to our Pencoed Pathways event, on Thursday 7th December 2023 which will run from 4pm to 5.30pm.

This event has been designed to support your child in making their option choices for GCSE, along with an opportunity to meet staff from all areas including core subjects. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our school community.

We have organised the evening to allow you to find out how the option process will run, and the timeline of key dates. We appreciate how important this academic year is for each and every one of our learners, and want to give you an opportunity to visit departmental representatives to find out more about the GCSE courses to support informed decisions. This will also help our learners successfully move from Year 9 into Year 10 next academic year.

You will also be able to hear from Mr John, Progress and Wellbeing Lead, and the leadership team and discover how we support all learners to learn, grow, thrive and flourish in our school.

Please note, for those Yr9 learners who are part of the LRC base, parents and carers will receive a separate invitation to an event, to learn about the tailored pathways available to their children.

Parents, carers and learners are to meet in Canteen 5 at 4pm for a short presentation, before moving to the Sports Hall to visit stalls from core (compulsory study at KS4) and options subjects. Signage will be posted to direct you to the appropriate locations and members of our Sixth Form will also be available to support.

Curriculum representatives will be available to talk through the subject outlines and requirements for GCSE. Please note that this is not a progress evening, and staff will not be able to share detailing information of learners progress. Yr9 Progress Evening is calendared for March 2024.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and responding to any queries or questions that you may have.
