Police Commissioner Visits Pencoed Comprehensive to Learn About Anti-Racism Work

On Friday 9th May, Pencoed Comprehensive School was honoured to welcome Emma Wools, Police and Crime Commissioner for South Wales. The visit was part of her ongoing work to understand how schools across the region are taking steps to become actively anti-racist.

Emma was greeted by our PARCH team – the Pencoed Anti-Racist Champions – made up of learners and staff who are driving change within the school and wider community. Learners proudly led a tour of the school and presented the wide range of anti-racism projects they have been working on, from primary, cluster visits, to whole school activities. She was extremely impressed by the thoughtful and passionate work on display, praising the learners for their important “heart work” and commended the school’s proactive and inclusive approach to embedding anti-racism in its culture.

We are incredibly proud of our PARCH learners and the meaningful impact they continue to make in promoting equality and challenging discrimination across our school and beyond.

Llais Cymru Visit

We were delighted to welcome Llais Cymru into the school this week, to meet with learners from our PARCH, UNDOD, SSCE, and Young Carer groups, along with representatives from the School Council.

The groups discussed issues around health and social care in Pencoed and Bridgend, including topics such as NHS waiting times, dentist appointments, and CAMHS waiting lists.

Learners also put forward suggestions for inclusive waiting rooms in GP surgeries, to support patients with additional learning needs. Additionally, they fed back about their own experiences with health and social care services.
