European Day of Languages 2025

We’ve had a fabulous time celebrating European Day of Languages! As always, our International Languages department got the whole school involved, for two days of celebration!

Last week, learners worked hard creating beautiful artwork, decorating the covers of thier workbooks with all things Spanish! Congratulations to Lillie, Emily, Amelia, and Lilli for taking first to fourth place!

Festivities continued on Friday, with staff across the school dressing up to represent different countries within Europe.

At lunch time, learners got in on the act. The photobooth, complete with European langauge themed props was a hit with all year groups!

Finally, Monday saw the annual ‘European Bake-Off’ take place, in what is fast becoming one of the most hotly contested competitions of the year! Year 7 learners baked an array of treats, from biscuits to cakes, suitably decorated to celebrate different languages and cultures. Entries were incredibly impressive; from Italian volcanos, to sushi made from cake! Thankfully, we had an independent adjudicator to judge: Ozzy from Sandwich Co.!

Appearances weren’t everything though, as Mrs Davies’s packed classroom shows! The cakes went on sale during break time, and there was so much demand, Mrs Davies had to open shop again at lunch! Da iawn to Lucy, Anayah, Chloe, Meredith and Sophie, who won Ozzy’s vote for first to fifth place, and Evelyn for being the crowd’s favourite with her Encanto cake, and Zane for the ‘most delicious’!

Year 5 and 6 Open Evening

On behalf of the staff and governors of Pencoed Comprehensive School, we are delighted to invite you to our Year 5 and Year 6 open evening on Monday 29th September 2025.  The event will consist of an opportunity to meet the senior leadership team and key members of staff who will be supporting your child’s wellbeing. This includes Mr Thomas John who will be Progress and Wellbeing Lead for our incoming Year 7 learners.

It is nearly a year since we had our Estyn inspection of which we are incredibly proud of. Estyn noted that “Pencoed Comprehensive School is a caring, inclusive school where the well-being of individuals is prioritised, and diversity celebrated. A strong sense of community and belonging forms a secure foundation for pupils to learn, grow, thrive and flourish” We have no doubt that by spending time with us, you will discover first-hand how we support all learners to learn, grow, thrive and flourish in our school community.

We will be running two sessions which will involve a guided tour of the school site followed by an information session led by key staff.

  • Tour one will begin at 4pm with the information session commencing at 4.45pm;
  • Tour two will begin at 4.45pm with the information session commencing at 5.30pm.

On arrival to school for your booked session, please make your way to the Sixth Form block where members of our Sixth Form leadership team and staff will meet you.

To book a place on either session, click here.

We also often have many queries about whether learners are also allowed to attend – please be assured that we look forward to meeting our prospective learners and our staff have planned many exciting activities!

On visiting the school, you will receive an overview of transition events for the year some of which include:

  • visits to the school in which learners engage with Areas of Learning Experience to support their learning transition;
  • sports events, such as the Year 5 Sports Day;
  • Pencoed Comprehensive staff visiting cluster primaries;
  • Year 6 summer transition day, in which learners meet their Wellbeing Coaches;
  • Year 6 summer term parents and carers meeting.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and responding to any queries or questions that you may have. If you are unable to attend the open evening but would like to visit the school, please contact us via transition@pencoedcs.bridgend.cymru

In the meantime, why not visit our Transition page, to find out more about the school, and to ehar from our learners!
