Our Hospitality and Catering learners have been gaining valuable experience, and showing off their skills.
In Year 10, learners were recently treated to a masterclass in poultry preparation with Kev Hall, Chef and Lecturer at Coleg y Cymoedd. The learners thoroughly enjoyed the session, especially sampling a range of delicious dishes afterward!
In addition, three of our talented Year 11 Hospitality and Catering learners recently entered the Springboard FutureChef competition at Bridgend College. The guest judges were hugely complimentary of our learners, praising their efforts and professionalism. We’re immensely proud; da iawn, pawb!
On 13th January 2025, a group of learners from Pencoed Comprehensive School embarked on an inspiring educational trip to the heart of UK democracy—the Houses of Parliament in London. The group included students from AS Politics, the School Council, UNDOD, and PARCH, all united by their shared passion for politics, leadership, and civic engagement.
The visit began with an enlightening guided tour of Parliament, offering students the opportunity to explore iconic spaces such as the House of Lords and the House of Commons. Walking through the historic corridors of power, learners gained a deeper understanding of the traditions and workings of the UK government.
Following the tour, the group participated in a workshop titled “The Power of Petitions.” In this session, students learnt how petitions play a critical role in raising awareness and prompting debate on pressing issues. They then applied their newfound knowledge by collaboratively designing their own petitions on topics relevant to the Bridgend community, demonstrating their creativity and commitment to addressing local concerns.
A highlight of the day was the engaging Q&A session with Chris Elmore, the Labour MP for Bridgend and Porthcawl. Learners seized the opportunity to ask insightful questions about his work as an MP, current political challenges, and the issues that matter most to their community. Mr. Elmore’s responses provided valuable perspectives and further inspired the students to consider their own potential roles in shaping the future.
This memorable trip not only enriched the students’ understanding of the UK’s political system but also strengthened their confidence as active citizens and future leaders. Pencoed Comprehensive School is proud of their enthusiasm and looks forward to seeing their continued contributions to both local and national discussions.
