Year 5 and 6 Open Evening

On behalf of the staff and governors of Pencoed Comprehensive School, we are delighted to invite you to our Year 5 and Year 6 open evening on Monday 29th September 2025.  The event will consist of an opportunity to meet the senior leadership team and key members of staff who will be supporting your child’s wellbeing. This includes Mr Thomas John who will be Progress and Wellbeing Lead for our incoming Year 7 learners.

It is nearly a year since we had our Estyn inspection of which we are incredibly proud of. Estyn noted that “Pencoed Comprehensive School is a caring, inclusive school where the well-being of individuals is prioritised, and diversity celebrated. A strong sense of community and belonging forms a secure foundation for pupils to learn, grow, thrive and flourish” We have no doubt that by spending time with us, you will discover first-hand how we support all learners to learn, grow, thrive and flourish in our school community.

We will be running two sessions which will involve a guided tour of the school site followed by an information session led by key staff.

  • Tour one will begin at 4pm with the information session commencing at 4.45pm;
  • Tour two will begin at 4.45pm with the information session commencing at 5.30pm.

On arrival to school for your booked session, please make your way to the Sixth Form block where members of our Sixth Form leadership team and staff will meet you.

To book a place on either session, click here.

We also often have many queries about whether learners are also allowed to attend – please be assured that we look forward to meeting our prospective learners and our staff have planned many exciting activities!

On visiting the school, you will receive an overview of transition events for the year some of which include:

  • visits to the school in which learners engage with Areas of Learning Experience to support their learning transition;
  • sports events, such as the Year 5 Sports Day;
  • Pencoed Comprehensive staff visiting cluster primaries;
  • Year 6 summer transition day, in which learners meet their Wellbeing Coaches;
  • Year 6 summer term parents and carers meeting.

We are very much looking forward to meeting you and responding to any queries or questions that you may have. If you are unable to attend the open evening but would like to visit the school, please contact us via transition@pencoedcs.bridgend.cymru

In the meantime, why not visit our Transition page, to find out more about the school, and to ehar from our learners!

Keeping Safe Online Youth Group

The Welsh Government is forming its Keeping Safe Online Youth Group for 2025/26.

They are looking for children and young people from across Wales aged 13-16 who are passionate about digital issues and would like the opportunity to become a Keeping Safe Online Youth Group member – working alongside other young people to advise and inform the Welsh Government.

You need to be able to commit to at least four 60 minute virtual meetings and at least one all day in-person event between November 2025 and March 2026. There may also be some additional reading to do ahead of meetings and some short video creation after meetings.

You’ll work constructively with other young people from a range of different backgrounds and regions, and have a willingness and appetite to learn and share and dig deep into a topic or issue that affects teens online.

Potential participants need to be able to listen openly and respectfully to different viewpoints and feel comfortable to discuss ideas and share opinions in a safe space.

This is an amazing opportunity to have your voice heard by the Welsh Government and to help influence both the content they develop for children and young people as well as the advice they give to adults who support them.

Group organisers will work to ensure that the Keeping Safe Online Youth Group is an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment where all individuals feel valued and respected. They particularly welcome applications from those who are part of an ethnic or religious minority group, LGBTQ+ individuals, people living with disabilities, refugees and migrants, as well as youth in foster care or those experiencing homelessness.

The Keeping Safe Online Youth Group is being led by Praesidio Safeguarding on behalf of the Welsh Government.

To apply, click here. Applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 26th September 2025, and you will need parent or carer permission to apply.
