Sports Report 11th-15th October

It was another great sporting week, with a first for the school, as well as a lot of pupils!

Pencoed Comp welcomed Ysgol Bro Morgannwg for our Yr7 teams’ inaugural matches – including fielding our first ever boys team! Both boys and girls displayed excellent skills and awareness, and Miss Nicholas is looking forward to seeing both teams develop as the year continues!

Our Yr8 and Yr9 boys football teams were in action, in the second round of the Welsh Schools FA competition. Both faced competitive teams from CCYD, and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship. Despite some impressive goals from Pencoed, CCYD clinched the win in both games.

Finally, Yr7 showed that the future of rugby is in safe hands at Pencoed! In their first match the team played visitors CCYD, and stormed to victory. From fancy footwork to crunching tackles, these players have a LOT of potential. We can’t wait to see how they develop over the next 5 years!

This week looks to be just as action packed, with our Yr10 boys and U15 girls football teams playing away to Olchfa and Dwr Y Felin, and Yr7 and Senior rugby teams take a trip to Bryntirion – who then pay us a visit to play our Yr9 and Yr10 netballers.

Sports Report 4th-8th October

It was a VERY busy week for our sports teams, with 12 competitive matches taking place, involving all year groups.

First up, our Netball teams played a series of matches both home and away against Llangynwyd. Yr8 won 6-5, Yr9 lost 10-4, Yr10 won 33-16, and Yr11 won 10-8. Miss McColl was especially proud of the Year 8s, as it was their first chance to represent the school in a match!

Results were mixed for teams competing in the first round of the Welsh Schools FA Cup – Yr7 and Yr8 Boys may have lost their matches, but Mr John and Mr Poley were very impressed as these were their first games for the school. Yr9 Boys, Yr10 Boys, Senior Boys, U13 Girls, and U15 Girls all move on to the next round.

Yr10 Footballers were victorious, with a 5-1 win over Archbishop.

In rugby, our Senior Team, made up of players from Yrs 11, 12, and 13 drew 19 all against Porthcawl in the Ospreys East U18 League. They continue this week, with an away game against CCYD.
